Banter Needs Room For A Reply
Banter works best when everyone can return a serve. If one person keeps supplying the jokes and another keeps supplying the discomfort, the group may be enjoying different conversations.
A good exchange can survive a raised eyebrow, a better comeback, or someone deciding they have had enough. The joke should leave room for all three.
Keep it light enough to leave. “We’re only joking” should not have to do all the work.
